Clean Energy Solutions - FerrStron Motor Generators

The innovative technology at FerrStron Powertrains, completely eliminates the usage of Rare Earth Magnets, while still achieving high efficiency, high power/torque in an ultra compact design. 


Our Technology offsets these millions of tons of CO2 equivalent emissions from rare earth mining, thus reducing the consequential environmental burden of the drive towards Clean Energy.


All this, while reducing the cost of the motor significantly, makes the Electric Vehicles and Wind generators not only environmentally sustainable but also commercially viable. 

Enviromental Burden - Rare Earth Magnet based Motors

Rare Earth Mining Pollution

Rare Earth Magnets contain Neodymium for high Remanence and Dysprosium for high Coercivity. The mining of these materials leads to significant environmental hazard.

Particulate Matter, Ionizing Radiation, Ecotoxicity, Human Toxicity and Acidification.


Enormity of pollution

1 kg of Rare Earth Magnet, NdFeB, is estimated to create pollution equivalent to 1.56 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.



rARE eARTH mINING pOLLUTION IN eLECTRIC mOBILITY

Estimated additional mining pollution - 47 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions per year.

There’s been an exponential increase in Rare Earth Magnets usage in Electric Vehicle Motors, as these are compact with reduced losses, thus increasing driving range of the vehicle. But the impact on environment, in terms of mining pollution is immense. A 100kW Electric Vehicle Motor is estimated to consume 1.23kg of NdFeB. By 2030, annual sales of Electric Vehicles is expected to cross 22 million.

Direct Drive Wind Generators

Estimated additional mining pollution – 16200 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions per 16MW turbine.

Gear-box maintenance overheads, particularly severe in case of Offshore installations, have pushed many established companies to opt for Direct Drive Wind Generators. These generators completely eliminate the gearbox and rotate at very low speeds ~10-15rpm. To maintain the efficiency, these Direct Drive Generators use Rare Earth Magnets. This leads to an increased upfront cost and an additional mining pollution.

An average Direct Drive Wind Generator is estimated to make use of 650kg of NdFeB magnets per MW of rated power.
